Cabo Polonio
National Park

The atlantic coast in Uruguay is over 600km long. And covered with amazing beaches.
One of the bigest sanddunes in Southamerica are located at the small Nationalpark Cabo Polonio. There's a nice walk between Valizas and Cabo Polonio. It takes around 2,5 hours over the sanddunes, where the landscape looks like in a desert.
In both villages are facilitys to stay overnight. Cabo Polonio located inside the Park might be more expensive and its smaller then its neighbor Valizas.
Valizas seems to be the capitol for young artisans in Southamerica. Travellers from Chile, Uruguay and Argentina come here and everywhere you see artisans doing/selling handcraftet stuff. Tourists from other countries are pretty rare, almost nobody speaks english.
Somedays there's a good swell for surfing and with some luck you can swim with Commerson-whales, the smallest Whale on earth. From the Lighthouse in Cabo Polonio you can observe sealions. Larger whales and dolphins can be watched from boats.
Uruguays coast (especially Rocha) is natural, wild, uncrowded and the villages mostly haven't tarred roads and traffic. A verry nice place to relax and spend some days!
